12/4/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Sunday

Again, my plans to control what I ate last night at the progressive dinner were thwarted.  I certainly did try to follow my plan - we went on an hour and a half hike with my parents and the dogs which was a blast.  It was a beautiful day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.  My son is so good on hikes - he just loves being outside.  I made sure to have limited starches and meats as well as no added fat to my breakfast and lunch.  However, I should never rely on other people for my veggie intake!  My Mom and I were talking about the "menu" at all of the houses and to be point blank, the dishes were all very fatty or filled with pork and beef (my Mom nor I really like meat all that much).  To ensure that we got enough to eat and that it wasn't too unhealthy my Mom offered to make our salad and bring it to the first house.  By the time we actually ate at the first house it was about 8 o'clock and after our huge hike I was shaking with hunger (this is never good to get to this point anyway because you usually end up overeating).  I was busy taking care of our son (when a house isn't baby proofed my husband or I are on the go constantly making sure he doesn't get into stuff) and my Mom asked during the chaos if the amount of salad she put on the plate was enough for me.  I responded with a yes because I was completely distracted and stressed trying to chase FJ around while trying to feed him at the same time.  When I finally was able to eat I glanced down at the amount of salad she had given me - I'm not kidding, 5 large piece of lettuce.  That's it.  Ummm, you'd think after 5 years of being on Jenny and maintenance she'd know that I can pretty much eat almost an entire bag of salad myself.  It wasn't like I could go back and get more - she had doused the rest of the salad that she was going to serve with some kind of Olive Oil based dressing (I had brought my own for my salad) and artichokes (which are a "good" fat but not one I wanted when I knew the other foods I was going to eat would contain a lot of fat.  Needless to say, what happened?  The five pieces of lettuce did not fill me up and I ended up devouring other kinds of delicious unhealthy foods (ie. mini croissants with cheese, bruschetta, real and fattening salsa chips with taco dip and homemade corn salsa, and several bites of mini breaded chicken nuggets).  Lovely.  I had already promised myself I would try one of each desserts that I wanted from the dessert house so I went ahead and still did that.  I am thinking the scale may not be happy with me tomorrow...
