Happy trick-or-treating!  I hope those of you who celebrate have a safe and enjoyable day!  What are some suggestions if you are the one passing candy out at your home and you want to avoid a weight gain?  My number one suggestion is to chew a piece of sugar-free gum.  If you are chomping away you are less likely to stick a candy bar in your mouth.  While you're sitting with a tempting bowl of candy waiting on trick-or-treaters (most likely with some of your favorite treats just staring at you) just think that after only a few pieces you've probably gained at least a pound or two.  The pounds add up quickly with candy.  They are extremely high in sugar and calories.  Drink a diet pop, a sugar-free hot chocolate, or some tea.  This will help your belly to feel full so you're not as likely to munch on the chocolates.  If it's your kids your worried about set a limit on the amount of treats they can have when they get home.  Don't overdo it and hide the bag so you have control over how much they eat and when.  Have them brush their teeth before they go out because the sugar is harder on their teeth if plaque is already on there.  Also, send them out with a healthy, well-balanced meal in their bellies.  They should feel full so they're not as tempted to snack the whole time they are out trick-or-treating.  But, most importantly, still let them be kids and have fun.  They should be allowed to eat some of their treats and enjoy them, just keep it within reason!

3/4 cup grapes

Dinner -

Broccoli with 1 tbsp. margarine

Snack -

JC S'Mores Bar
