It's not uncommon for a front tooth to break and can't be restored. There are a number of causes for teeth to break. The most common reasons can be extensive decay, previous root canal treatment rendering the tooth brittle and accidental trauma. When this happens, the patient is distraught and certainly looks for an emergency quick fix. Dental implants are an option that can offer patients an immediate temporary tooth. The procedure is called immediate extraction replacement. Under local anesthesia the broken root is removed and the socket is prepared to receive a dental implant that is shaped like a tooth root. An attachment or abutment is secured to the implant and a temporary crown is fabricated and cemented on to the abutment post. The patient no longer has to endure the embarrassment of a missing front tooth.
