Gum Health And Total Body Health? Pt. 3 - Dr. Charles Bell

This new paradigm has the dental team now needing to be the patients' health advocate and teaming up with the other medical providers to assist the patient in being as healthy as possible. A complete health history review, medication review and blood pressure screenings are now part of "routine" dental visits. Communication between the dental and medical offices is now an encouraged and on-going dynamic. We receive many referrals from physicians and cardiologists for periodontal evaluations and treatment plans as part of the patient's medical care. In some instances genetic testing is done in certain patients with family histories of periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease to establish those patients' at exceptional risk in formulating treatment protocols.

This "systemic link" now and in the future will be a major influence in the diagnosis and management of periodontal disease.
