6/25/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Saturday

How can you still stay true to your diet when you go to a wedding?  Weddings are always tough because they're usually right during dinner.  There's really no way to eat just a salad and then have your meal later like you can do when you dine out.  The wedding usually will last too long before you can have your own meal and it usually starts too early to have it before!  You don't want your body to go into "starvation mode" because you waited until 10:30 to eat a healthier meal.  By this time, your body has stored the fuel it has left as fat anyway so you'll most likely gain the next day.  This is what I did on Friday:  Jenny Craig suggests to cover half your plate in veggies, 1/4 in a low-fat protein, and a 1/4 in a whole-grain starch.  When I was at the wedding obviously I just had to do the best I could because there were no whole-grains and the chicken was covered in sauce.  I prefer a buffet anytime...who cares that a sit-down costs more?!  You get less food and you can't pick more/less of what you'd like.  We had a buffet so I actually covered 1/2 my plate in salad, 1/4 in mixed veggies (which I'm sure had some butter but it wasn't saturated in it), and 1/4 in plain pasta and then I just drizzled a little marinara on it!  It was probably the most healthy I've been able to eat at a wedding!  Since I had a couple glasses of wine this was my added fat for the day.  This meant no salad dressing (luckily they had parmesan so I sprinkled that on top of my salad for flavor).  Just do the best you can.  The more veggies to fill up on the better!
