Injuring your neck and upper back in a motor vehicle accident can be a very painful condition that can last for a long time.  Early and proper diagnosis is the key to proper treatment.  A recent study identified trigger points specifically related to whiplash injury.  This supports many doctors experience in that the most severe musculoskeletal pathology after whiplash is found in the upper part of the cervical spine.  These types of problems are discovered through clinical examination and do not show up on x-ray or even MRI.

The authors reported that deactivation of the trigger points is a large part of the rehabilitation of patients suffering from whiplash type injuries.
