3/16/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

Do you know how many calories are in a piece of fruit?  Bananas are high with 107 calories.  Leading second are large oranges, pineapple, mango, a whole grapefruit, papya, and then apples.  Generally the more water in the fruit the less calories.  However, don't be scared of fruit.  Fruit and complex carbohydrates are essential for good health.

If you are an avid exerciser, get your dietary recommendations from a personal trainer, or lift weights then my diet is not for you.  You definitely need to find the right balance for your body.  I do not think Jenny Craig is any better than the diet a personal trainer recommends that you do.  There are definitely negatives to all diet programs.  For example, until you are in matinenance you are eating frozen foods (along with fresh fruits and veggies though!).  Jenny Craig is just what works for me.  If you are following my diet do not be afraid of eating fruit (as long as you stick to 2 a day if you're following a 1200 caloric diet like mine).  Atkins, personal trainers, and many other diet plans that are heavy on protein scare you away from fruit and whole grain carbs.  I think a heavy protein diet if you exercise a lot is great.  I personally do not have enough time to work out heavily and when I eat a lot of protein I seem to gain weight (when I did use to workout twice a day in college...although I was very fit!).  Jenny Craig is all about the food pyramid and eating a balanced diet.  This would be for the type of person that enjoys carbs and realistically can only work out a few times a week.  Fruit is natural sugar and good for you.  They replace fluids in your body and fill you up with all the fiber they contain.  Carbs that are rich in whole grains give you energy, fiber, and vital nutrients.
