12/30/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Thursday

On Christmas Day my friend gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, 6 pounds.  She came a week early, that lucky dog.  This friend lives close to us (which is rare out in the country!) so I'm hoping in the future our boys will be friends.  We went over to visit them last night and I can't get over how quickly they grow!  Our son looks huge compared to theirs (11 weeks apart).  He is absolutely precious.  However, I do not envy those first few weeks of having a newborn at all.  It was one of the greatest, yet toughest times of my life.  I tried to comfort my friend (they are new parents too) and let her know that the exhaustion, hormones, and bickering due to figuring out everything and just being tired really does go away.  It will eventually give way to smiling and playing and you'll forget how tough those first few weeks really are.  There are really no words to describe it until you've lived it.  My friend who just had her first a year ago kept telling me how tough it was going to be but I really had no idea.  It's so intense and when you're that tired and the baby really doesn't have a personality yet it's just plain hard.  Just in the past few weeks our baby is developing a personality and it is just making it that more difficult to go back to school in just a few short days.  We are lucky enough to at least have my mother-in-law, whom I love, watch the baby.  She is very structured yet loving and it will be the perfect balance for him.  But, oh to be where my friends are in those first few weeks again...lol, no thank you!
