11/14/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

I would say that two of the hardest things about having a newborn baby are lack of sleep and the overwhelming amount of visitors.  It is sad to say that my husband and I didn't have one single night in the two weeks he was off that were just us 3.  We were slammed with visitors.  I would never disagree that we are blessed with wonderful friends and family.  Many people were kind enough to bring us dinner (trust me, making any kind of food takes an exhausting level of work that you just don't have in you when you are running on zero amount of sleep!).  That first day my husband and I didn't even attempt at breakfast until 11 and that was when his Mom came over to relieve us.  I am not even sure what we were doing from sun up until then but whatever it was it kept both of us very busy until she got there!  I know for the future that sometimes while visitors relieve you; you also need to learn to say no.  Visiting still takes some social skills which may be lacking when you've had no sleep.  Some nights we wished it was just FJ sleeping on our bellies and watching a movie with peace and quiet.  I loved and appreciated all the support I just should've spaced out the visitors a little more.  Sleep is still a rare commodity.  Every 3 hours one of us is up to feed and change him.  Sleep as much as you can in those first few weeks even if it's during the day when he naps!
