6/2/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

The big question is whether or not pregnant women can eat turkey and hot dogs. My doctor has said time and time again, "Everything in moderation, Katie." But, once again, I got tempted and looked online. I wanted to know why pregnant women are advised not to eat deli meat and hot dogs. Well, all the sites I went to discussed listeria, a bacteria that pregnant women are at high-risk for that can cause severe illness, miscarriage, and premature birth. 1 in 5 die from this illness - now that statistic is scary! It is only advisable to eat these things unless they have been cooked until steaming. Bummer for me - these are about the only two meats I'm even mildly interested in eating. Opinions from others? WEDNESDAY Breakfast - 1/4 cup Break-free eggs, 100 calorie English Muffin, Morning Star Sausage 1 cup fat-free organic milk 3/4 cup strawberries Lunch - ***1/2 turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread, lettuce, and tomato from Panera Salad (romaine, parmesan cheese, tomatoes) fat-free dressing Snack - Apple Dinner - 2 oz. turkey burger 1 cup mac & cheese Broccoli with 1 tbsp. margarine Snack - Serving size of Baked Cheetoh's
