5/30/13- Paula's Eating/Exercise Journal: Sunday

I was reading a story of one women and her personal physical makeover through exercise and healthy eating choices.  In the article she said she suffers  from  lipedema, a disorder that causes fatty deposits and fluid retention in the legs and hips. It also causes extreme sensitivity in the limbs that are afflicted.  Exercise and healthy eating can slim a person with this disorder, but the cottage cheese effect may never go away completely.

Some of the pain associated with this disorder can be relieved by elevating the appendage.

I bring up lipedema to share information, and also to reinforce that no one knows why people have the shape they do.  If they are more heavy set, it is not always because they are pounding cookies at home, but rather, it may be because of a medical condition that that person has to deal with every day.  Reach out rather than rejecting them.
