Today I felt excited because my Dad had survived the first night of surgery with flying colors.  It wasn't like the previous surgeries at all.  A huge change was his surgeon had switched to a private practice and out of the hospital.  The place my Dad stayed and had surgery was like the Ritz Carlton of surgical establishments.  It was clean, comfortable, and the ratio that evening was 1:1.  Two patients, two nurses - what could be better?!  I thought I was going to spend the night but it was clear my Dad didn't need me (thank god because I still would've been just sleeping in a chair all night).  The practice doesn't use morphine so he didn't have that awful morphine hangover when he woke up either.  I was grateful for this too because in the past, my Dad would hallucinate and have horrible headaches - the kind that feel like your head has split in two.  The only thing we had left to worry about the moment was:  did the surgery really work? and how long would the pain meds last because my Dad had been allergic to every kind but this one.  This was the last resort for pain meds and if this didn't work; he would have to use Tylenol!   I was praying that they would last so my Dad could stay in a drug-induced sleep until his body started to heal from going under the knife.  When I left him he was sleeping as well as you can be after a major surgery.

THURSDAY 

Breakfast - 

1 serving Fiber One Muffins

Banana

1 cup fat-free organic milk

Lunch - 

1 cup Healthy Choice Chicken Noodle Soup

Carrots

Fat-free yogurt

Snack - 

Apple

Dinner - 

2 oz. Grilled Chicken on whole wheat bun with lettuce and tomato

Salad (romaine, tomatoes, croutons) 2 tbsp light ranch

Snack - 

100 calorie popcorn
