3/16/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 16. March 2013 22:36

I was eating lunch today in the staff lounge.  One of my friends (who must know me well!) made a comment that I would blog about her today.  Well, she was right, but only because I wonder if others are misconstrued by the topic of salad.  Now she follows the Weight Watchers program but I would have to guess Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers have some similiarities when it comes to the "types" of foods to eat.  She had a HUGE salad (which I think is great because that's about how big mine are for dinner!) but she thought I was going to blog about portion size and how big her bowl of lettuce was.  However, she was completely wrong...salad is considered a "free" food on Jenny Craig.  You can eat as much of it as you want; let's face it, it's roughage and it's going to run right through you!  The misconception for some is that you should have a reasonable portion of salad, but that is in reference to the meat, dressing, cheese, and other items you add to your salad.  If you're just eating some tomatoes, lettuce, and cauliflower you can eat as much as you want of it...as long as you're mixing it with fat-free dressing.  If you're choosing salad dressing as your "fat" for the day then yes, you only get a serving size of it on your salad (which I'm sure won't go very far if you have a large salad).  Point being:  feel free to stuff your face with actual lettuce and other non-starchy veggies!
