1/16/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 12. January 2013 18:21

Tonight I was all excited to try a recipe from the new cookbook I bought: Hungry Girl 200 Under 200.  I had chosen a recipe for dinner when I made the grocery list that sounded good but was easy to make during the work week.  It was called "Smothered Pig in a Blanket."  The recipe is based on 1 serving with 1 fat-free hot dog, 1 serving Pillsbury Reduced-Fat Crescent Roll, 1/2 slice fat-free cheese, and a 1/4 cup Veggie Chili.  It's only 196 calories and 5.25g fat.  Now some of you may not enjoy hot dogs but I do, and what's better than a crescent roll, wrapped all up with a hot dog and cheese?!  I already bought all the ingredients, had them out on the counter to make them, and happened to think about how high sodium is in processed foods like hot dogs.  It occurred to me that I had forgotten to check the sodium in the recipe...drumroll please: 950mg of sodium!  Holy cow!  I'm supposed to stay around 650-700.  Well, unfortunately, that clinched it for me.  I was not going to make it until I could get the sodium down.  Bummer.
